yawning python
just wondering if its normal for my jcp to yawn ive caught him once yesterday and again today he is also in shed his eyes jst cleared up

Yup, totally fine, have caught all my snakes yawning at some point, notice the jcp more often as he tends to be out on view rather than hiding all the time.

Make sure there is no noise whenhe is breathing, no discharge or bubbling around the mouth or nostrils. Is he eating and shedding normally etc. If the only thing you notice is the yawn then no problem.

ok no noise or discharge im in the process of switching him to F/T so i havent fed him in a couple of weeks i was going to feed him yesterday but hes in the blue

May be worth trying, my jcp would strike through abrick wall for food! He fed during his shed with no problem last time. Obviously all snakes are different but you never know, if he wont eat it will yoir boa take it instead? That way no waste - my jcp is my unused prey item hoover/dustbin, will eat pretty much anything!

Snakes tend to yawn more often when in shed then they do normally.
It helps loosen the skin around their mouths where the process begins, Mark

Thanks Mark...I never really noticed that, but it makes sense. I'm always learning new tidbits from you!
Jay0133, you shouldn't have too much trouble getting him onto f/t. It sometimes takes a few tries---I'd suggest stretching the times between feedings by a week or so, and then he'll be hungrier and more likely to eat. My Irian Jaya was a live mouse feeder when I got him, but in 3 months I had him eating f/t RATS. All of my carpets will also feed even when in shed..that's a great thing about carpets-once you get them going, they make great clean up snake (eating the leftovers if someone else refuses).
