I wish..........
...... we were a few more years down the line with our snake collection.
We were offered a pair of Biak?? GTP's today, just on the turn to green, one male one female. Obviously unproven as breeders but would be a great pair to start with.
IF we were set up for breeding would have been a no-brainer but we just aren't ready to try that yet.
Here are some pics of the pair tho (and a Caiman Lizard that is freaking awesome but we dont have the space!!)

Re: I wish..........
If they come with vivs, and you could afford it, I'd say go for it Rob. You only live once, and it would be an investment.
I am currently debating with myself over a baby albino burm. The pro's and cons are pretty even, though I think the con's are just a little slightly ahead.

Re: I wish..........
Wiv small cubes that they could live in for about another year they would be £1100. Before they bred they would both need full size arboreal's so thats another £300 odd. We would also need an incubator another £100 and then tubs for the babies when they hatched etc. We also need more information about breeding and incubation - its something we have said we may consider a few years down the line but for now not really feasible.
At this point in time we also dont have the space for the extra vivs and equipment. IF we had the space i might have considered buying the snakes for now and worrying about the rest down the line but, hey, you win some you lose some!
When our GTP is older we may consider getting one more then but time will tell.

Re: I wish..........
He is a beast - he is £1750 but comes with a 6foot long by 3foot high by 3 foot deep viv and setup so not that expensive.

That's really reasonable, almost worth putting yourself in debt over

Re: I wish..........
The lizard is unreal, imo gtp's are going to get dirt cheap with all the morphs slowly coming out in them. If i were to get a pair myself i would go a blue adult or albino adult pairing and try and cash in on the money before it disapears.
I know what you mean about space Rob, im getting close to full here now.

Cool, it's a shame you couldn't get them. But those prices are expensive! Here GTPs run about $300USD-several thousand USD.
Unproven breeders of Biak-type without any special designer line genetics should be about $350 apiece, so £220-ish. I can't get over how much more expensive they are in Europe!

seriously? GTPs hold their value because not many people can just jump in on them with the disappointing, "cash in on the money" attitude and produce a crap load of hatchlings.
if you can find a blue adult, male or female, it definitely wont be dirt cheap and as for the albino, you wouldnt even consider purchasing one before you sold off your house so that you can afford it.
its not about the money. if you dont love em at 10,000 you wont love em at 1,000 and you definitely wont give a $hit about the damn thing at 100.

Re: I wish..........
Rob, if they look good and are healthy, i woud definitely pick up that pair of GTPs. they're still very young so you dont even need to start thinking about breeding them for a good few years. you have lots of time to just care for them and watch them grow and research everything you need to know. by the time that they may be able to breed you should be able to afford whatever supplies you need.
how big are the enclosures that they come with and how are they heated?

Re: I wish..........
They are currently in 18inch glass cubes - not sure about the heating but guessing at heatmats (tho the rep shop is kept at a pretty high temp as well).
even without considering breeding it is a very tempting proposition to have a couple more GTP's. People keep saying that over time herpers tend to veer toward one type of snake and i could easily see Arboreal pythons being our "thing" in the future.
Will let you know waht the final decision is!

Mate over here true pure aussie gtps were over $10000 a couple of years ago for a hatchie, now you can get one $2000. Non natives over here you can get $1000 and even those used to be worth close to $10000. The prices attached to these guys are dropping and dropping fast, yes they are still a high priced animal but if you want them to only make cash then dont bother buying normals!!!! Like everything else in our hobby they are dropping in price because they are becoming more attainable for every one and are breeding easier for everyone.
Dont get me wrong i love these snakes, but i dont consider them worthy of their price tags to be honest and if i wanted to make money i would as i said buy an albino or a blue pairing. Its a short term loss for a long term gain, if i had the money sitting here for an albino pairing i would go for it. As you would make the money back ten fold in the future breedings ( obviously dependent on that pair breeding).

hatchlings are around £275 to £300 = $412 to $450
adults £500 to £650 = $750 to $975
proven pair £1200 to £1400 = $1800 to $2100
again depending on quality some of the exceptionally nice ones can command higher prices.
what age are the pair in question rob ?
at what age were they sexed and by what method ?
ive read of a lot of damage being caused to gtp's when they get popped or probed too young.spinal kinks etc.if you look around the vent just to make sure there are no bumps or kinks mate as its a quite common problem over here.
that lizard is awsome id love one of them
cheers shaun
