I have only held captive specimens that were quite docile.I believe that they have to masticate on their prey for sufficient quantities of venom to be administered.[wild specimens would be a different story that i would not attempt]

I free handle them, well most of them. I don't trust the male gila, he'll chase you out of the cage lol. The female is pretty laid back but will still snap back. The beadeds are pretty chill and I'm pretty lax with them. They aren't deadly, although an ant bite can kill. Their venom is more of a deffensive venom, I don't think it's used to kill prey. Both would produce a very painful bite. I've heard of two people who were able to beat out bites by eatting pain killers but both said it was still very painful. Typically a morphine drip at the hospital is in order!
