Guess what i got?
So this morning at around nine i started my three hour drive down to pick up my new brb. I just got back home a little bit ago and he is in his tub. few things though, i'm thinking of putting her in my ten gal aquarium. To help with humidity i am going to seran wrap half to three fourth of the lid. And put hides and stuff in with a low wattage of heat bulb. Or should she stay in tub? pictures will be up tonight. Cant now cuz i'm on my phone.

Re: Guess what i got?
Is it a BRB? lol I would leave it in the tub for now. I know it'll be harder to see, (than in a aquarium) but this means it"ll feel more secure. If he can't see everything moving in the room he'll settle in faster. The saran wrap is not a good idea with a heat bulb. It could melt. I use to put a towel over my aquarium to help keep humidity up. Can't wait to see pics. Congrats on finally getting him.

Re: Guess what i got?
ding ding ding !!! your right!!!
lol ok. i think i may move him down to a smaller tub. right now its in a 94qt tub... its HUGE!!! i do have plenty of hides and stuff though.
as for the seran wrap, i would leave enough room so the heat wouldnt get to it...
i use a town on my Ball and corns....
i will maybe move him down to a smaller tub because she is always up top on a lil indentation thing in the tub and when i open it shes right there!! and im scared she'll fall off. i wish there was a way to fill in the lil indentations but i cant think of any!!
oh yea, ive been told that i dont need holes for ventilation and i do need holes..... what should i do? and whats an easy way to do it?
here is the pic the breeder sent me!

Re: Guess what i got?
If you have a soldering iron, that works.
Or you can heat up a screwdriver (phillips head..) with a lighter.
Don't do either with the snake inside.

Re: Guess what i got?
soldering iron was the best 10 bucks ive ever spent lol goes through like butter and you can get a lot more uses out of it other than putting holes in snake tubs lol

Re: Guess what i got?
You need holes so you have good ventilation, or it could lead health issues. I just took a small drill bit and drilled all bunch of hole a the way around the tub. If you mist it and still have water droplet on the side of the tub the next day when you go to mist again you need more holes. When you mist you want the humidity to get up around 80% and slowly drop down to about 60% by the next day. You want it to cycle like it would in a in the jungle.

Re: Guess what i got?
AWESOME!!! Hey just remember Humidity, Humidity, Humidity with the little BRB. did you get a chance to see Derek's reptile room? There are a ton more snakes in there then you would ever guess. But remember that BRB's, at least mine, really liked a larger enclosure. Not like a BP that can be stressed out by a large enclosure.

omg i did see his snake rooom!!! i got to hold an albino Ball absolutly loved it there, i could of stayed all day and played with snakes, but he had to eat lunch and put his kids down for a nap...
humidity-not worried about, it stays high all the time (theres water on the sides)
heat- worried... my UTH is stupid, i hate them!! in one tub my probe says 90... my other one(shes in now) says 77-79ish on the warm side....
still going to get another thermometer and hygrometer prolly tomorrow night.
shes getting fussy with me so im letting her chill the rest of the night, how cold can she handle? or should i leave her UTH on all night??
it gets about 69 or so during the night...

Re: Guess what i got?
70 is the lowest i would let the baby get.
I have never had luck with a uth heating a viv. they drive me crazy but i get how you can't really use a bulb because it would maybe melt the plastic. You can get a stronger uth maybe? the uth can cover the whole bottom. just make sure the temp doesnt go above 85 in the viv.

Re: Guess what i got?
Get a heat cable, a long one. electrical tape it to the bottom of your tub. then wrap the excess around his climbing branch in a spiral.
They don't get hot enough to burn your snake, but they put out a lot of heat over the length. Plug this into a thermostat.
To create a hot side, just make the lines closer together on one side.
I'm dummy up a pic for you...
I know the pic sucks, but you get the idea.
Put the heat cable on the bottom in that kind of a pattern, plug it into a thermostat.
These are basically the guts of an electric blanket. They're moisture safe, they don't get hot enough to hurt your snake, or melt the plastic and they still put out a lot of heat since they have a ton of surface area.
Zoo Med 39 foot Repti Heat Cable
That should be long enough to do the bottom and wrap a branch and it's only $28 bucks.
It will heat better than an UTH since it doesn't have to try to heat through plastic (a very effective insulator), and help with your humidity since it'll be warming up mulch, which holds moisture.
As for a soldering iron. Look at radioshack. It's basically a tool, looks a bit like a screw driver with a cord coming out of it. The tip gets very very hot, hot enough to melt soft metals (generally alloys of lead, tin, zinc, etc) called solder which comes in rolls. Basically, for our purposes, you plug it in, the tip gets hot, and you push it through the tub like a hot knife (literally!) through butter.

wow thanks!!
so you are telling me to put the heat cable inside the tank and cover it with my substrate?
i keep looking up thermostats but i may just be dumb i cant find any... a link would be awesome!!
got holes drilled in not too big of ones.. there about|----| that big-ish... maybe smaller.
as for heating, the hot side did get up to 88. i know thats too hot!!!
she was on the cool side all day today, i will deff. look into that heat cable though! thanks

Re: Guess what i got?
Yes, heat cable is safe for use inside enclosures with snakes. (I wouldn't try it inside an enclosure with something that digs, or chews, but snakes should be fine). It feels exactly like an electric blanket as far as warmth goes.
Thermometers, Thermostats, and Timers
I use the Zoo Med 500R thermostat with probe It's not great (just has a temperature dial, not temperature settings, you have to dial it in by turning it on, waiting for it to cycle off, then check your temps. If too high, turn it down, if too low, turn it up, etc) but it was cheap , 33 bucks.
