read this story, real or fake?
ok so i was sitting in my psychology class and we had to introduce ourselves and tell alil bit about us. well i said that i have 2 snakes and blah blah blah.... ANYWAY... here is the real story...
my teach told me that she heard this story that a lady was sleeping with a boa constrictor. well over a few days, the lady noticed that the snake was stretching out right beside her in bed. the lady went to the vet and told her dr. about it, the VET said that the snake was trying to size her up to eat her....
isnt that the dumbest **** you ever heard?!?!
or could it be true? lol
personally i told her it was bullshit and it would never happen like that...

Re: read this story, real or fake?
I'm fairly new to snakes so i don't know enough to give you an answer buuut
My mum heard that story somewhere and now she's kinda paranoid that my 4 foot bp (who btw hasn't eaten since last september) is waiting and then he's going to try to eat me. *sigh* it's difficult explaining things to her..mostly because she's my mum.

Re: read this story, real or fake?
If any of the story at all was true i would imagine the snake was trying to get what warmth it could. Seeing as most dont keep there house at the temp it would need to be for that long of a period of time.......
If it wanted to eat her and thought it could it wouldnt stratch next to her to double check, it would just go for it.

Re: read this story, real or fake?
I heard the exact same story, it was a while ago, however I thought it was a python of some sort. I imagine if it was a big enough snake it might be true. I don't know though?
If it was a big enough snake and a small enough lady I'm sure he'd have no problem eating her. Personally I'd like to think it would take a 30 foot 2000 pound snake to eat me though!

Re: read this story, real or fake?
I heard the same story, it was going around here a few months ago, I can not see it being true as I would have thought it would just try and eat her, it would not stretch out over a number of nights. It sounds like someone scare mongering to put people off snakes. It has not worked for me as I have 3 and my male boa is 9 foot long lol.

My stepmom has a snake phobia and told me the other day she couldn't sleep one night cause she kept thinking my snake was going to attack me or my girlfriend. I laughed.

Re: read this story, real or fake?
Lol. Another scare tactic going around by snake haters. The snake would not "size her up". As far as I know, their brains are not that calculating. They are a very primitive species and act mostly out of instinct- therefore it would not think to size up prey. I've seen videos of snakes eating things that are way too big-and eventually they give up and puke it out, but they didn't size up their prey obviously. The snake was seeking warmth and relaxing, IMO. I must say, if there is any truth to this story, why the hell didn't the lady have the snake in a cage? It's dangerous for both of them for the snake to be loose.

Re: read this story, real or fake?
Total BS, as stated snakes do not "size up" their prey.
They just grab it & if its too big too eat they just spit it out.
The snake was using her as a source of heat, thats it, thats all, Mark

Re: read this story, real or fake?
Ughh...I just hate bs stories like that too. But what's even worse, is the real life idiots who let their children get attacked by their large snakes. It's so frustating when I mention my snakes in general conversation with people, 5 times out of 10, they ask me if I heard about the Burmese who attacked the toddler in Florida...sooo frustrating. Snake stories, true and fictional, always are not taken with very much thought by non herp folks!
