Just a thought, maybe you've already done this--did you try googling Australian snakes in images? It's hard for us to tell from the photo. Are we seeing the bottom, top, or side of the snake? Was it solid yellow (as it appears in the photo) or striped or ???

The closest I have come to identifying it - is as an Australian Green Tree Snake. I've seen several pictures and it appears that it is one! Although mine was rather more Olive in colour!
