QUESTION: Full grown RTB

There is a shop here that has a rescued red tail. They are asking for $100 which is the adoption fee. It's about 6ft and male and was told that he'd probably grow to be another ft.

I held him and he seemed to have a good temperment. The guy said he eats rats or rabbits and was in good health.

My question is, what are disadvantages to buying a snake that's already fully grown, to buying a yearling?

It won't live aslong? Pretty much the only one I can think of. Someone else may have other ideas.

Re: QUESTION: Full grown RTB

It is kind of neat to see their tiny stage. I've only had full grown boas from craigslist so far. I just got a pair of yearlings and it is completely amazing to know that these 1lb guys are going to get to be 9' and 20 lbs.

Its like watching kids grow up (or so I'm told).

Re: QUESTION: Full grown RTB

If he has a good temperment and is eating well and in good health then I say go for it! Some of the advantages to getting a baby is that you can work with them to calm them down to be able to handle them as adults and you know their life history. But you said this guy was well behaved. Do they know how old he is? There is nothing wrong with giving this guy a good home. Good luck.

P.S. I am sure that he won't be your last, so your next one can be a baby!!
