Can't get pic size small enough?

Hey everyone, I have a Nikon D40X, 10.2 MP digital SLR camera. I usually shoot my pics with the 18-55 mm lens. They turn out great and upload on to my camera fine. The problem is the size. The pics usually are around 850kb. When I upload them to an image share site, I use photobucket, and resize them to fit on websites they never get small enough. I have gotten them small enough to work on another forum site (KS) but even then the pic is too small and it loses it potential if you know what I mean. ANyone else have any ideas on what I can do to rectify this situation. Thanks in advance for any help and assistance, Todd

I use generic mspaint to resize to 800x600 most of the time, works enough.
