Question maybe early in the shed stages???

well since i got my ball she has been the sweatest thing.. active, nice, ect ect.. well i go to pull her out just a few min ago and BOOM she strikes.. well this is kinda scary for me.. this is my first snake this size and i didnt raise her, so i am aware of her size.. if she grew up around me it would be a different story.. ive never really even held a snake this big before her ( deprived, i know) but she struck 3 times.. never hit me.. but scary none the less.. after about 5 min of leaving her door open i finally got up enough courage to try again, and she was fine... once again sweet as soon as she got out.... but when i brought her outside i noticed she is lookin a little "hazy" on the back and she seems to have 1/3 of her left eye bluish grey. i know these are eye caps ect ect but have never heard of anyone catching them as there starting.. is possible she is startin to go into shed, and just not developed full eye caps yet or do i just need a snake hook??? will she develop both eye caps at once or can one start before the other..

thanks for the help....

If you had been handling any prey items then it is possible for the snake to react by striking, also it could just be very hungry. Offer it something if you have not already. Snakes have bad vision anyways, particularly when in shed, so if it is hungry, mistaking your hand as a prey item isnt that surprising. I wouldnt worry about a snake hook just yet. When was the last time you fed the snake.

You can get a cheap humidity gauge to tell you the relative humidity of your enclosure, and make sure it is 50-70 percent. Keep it in that range and you shouldnt have a bad shed.

Humid hides are also a great solution, you can do a search on this site for "humid hide" and turn up a lot of great posts about ways to make them.

If this snake is being tempermental and striking, it could be a sign its husbandry is off, recheck your temps to be sure.

was she in her hide before you took her out (did you remove her hide?) they are usually very defensive when this happens. as well as she could just be in shed. just make sure as artimis said that her husbandry is dead on and you should probably just leave her alone for this shed (i get the impression that she's newly aquired). Dont let this get to you, even snakes have bad days i guess...lol
take care

I've had boas do the exact same thing. When they are going into shed they seem to get a little extra fiesty and defensive. I'm guessing if you leave her alone until after the shed, she'll be back to her normal self.

well its been almost 48 hours and she still has no eye caps.. i checked last night and today... my housbrandy is dead on.. well the temps are at 95 ( hot spot) cause i wanted a coupple degres extra, i thought she had a slight case of RI

she struck again at me last night.. she was in her hide with her head poked out i went to shift her other hide and before i even got there she struck, i didnt bother touching it..

she was in a rubbermaid for a few days and i had no problem pickin her up.. now she is in a custom made front opening wooden enclosure.. and i cant get her out without a fight.. could it be she is just not used to being picked up from the side..

there are no eye caps.. but im gonna try feeding her tonight,.... this will be the third day in that enclosure so she should be adjusted.... i wanted to wait a while to be sure...but if you think i should feed her maybe i should
