fighting

ok so i wanted to put my male and female together so i dont have so many tanks in my room. last night i put the male in the females tank and the female in the males tank. someone told me to do this so they can smell eachother. well today i went to put the male back into his tank and the female didnt move at all (shes albino, and does this allot when i go near her) then he went up to her and she nipped him on the head. and then they both snapped at eachother and bit eachother and didnt let go, then they went in a "death roll" and they probally did that for a few seconds before i intervened. what is up with this. is this normal because i think the male now has a cut on his head( might be sand) i separated them and put them back into their normal tanks.
i know the one is male because i see his licking his "thing" every once in a while
and im guessing the albino is a girl because i have not seen her do this.

can anyone tell me what just went on? the male is about 2 and a half years old and the "female" is about a year and a half.

any info greatly appreciated
thanks
Jim

is it possible you don't have a male and female? If you post a pic of under their tail i can tell you if it's male or female. OR
you could have what's called a "hot" female. It's a female that was incubated at really high temps. They often don't like males and sometimes don't even like females.

I had a hot female and she was fiesty!! she nipped me loads, and my others were alright... all incubated at average temps. The hottie still didnt fight with the male and other female she was housed with.

Im pretty sure you got two males there big mon. Have a look at web pages on how to tell them apart, its pretty easy to see at that age.

It does sound a bit too rough for a typical male and female to fight like that, but it can happen. If she isn't in any mood to mate, she'll try to fight him off. Should he happen to be too insistent and keep trying, it could end up being an all out fight, but I've never seen anything as violent as what you described. My first inclination would have been to check the 'female' to make sure she isn't really a male.

On the other hand, sometimes they just aren't compatible. It's not common but does happen. I've got a male and female who just can't stand each other. They're fine with other leos, get along perfectly with their mates but there's no way on earth they'll be in the same enclosure with each other.

well i looked at her and i did see 1 bumb, but on my male he has 2 of these bumbs. ill get my friend over her maybe he can tell what this "girl" is. if she is a girl i have 1 other male she might like, but i think ill give her time to get over the fight.
thanks alot
