Anyone own..........

Dave and Tracy Barkers book, Pythons of the World: Austalia???? Am I correct in thinking that it would be the authoritative reference for the the care and husbandry of Carpets?? And if so....is it really worth the $200 US?? Thanks for the help, I have my credit card in hand.

I have it. But I don't think it was ever $200. Maybe now because its rare and out of print.

It ROCKS though. Holy smokkkkes!

It is now 350 here at the local petshop, i looked through it and it looks great but 350 or 200 is way to much in my opinion.

Well, you can buy it from Dave and Tracy themselves for $200 (US), hardcover and autographed. It is out of print so they are selling frm their own personal stash it seems. Unless their website is outdated. So Jeff, would you say it was worth it for a prospective JCP (or any carpet) breeder and addict??

Unless you're hard up for the ACTUAL hardcover...it might be a better idea to ask an owner of the book to photocopy the pages for you (yes, I am aware that this constitutes copyright violation). If you are just having it for your own personal use, what's the harm? This seems to be a MUCH cheaper option, even if the book is 200 pages.

If you were a dvd freak would you pass on an actual copy of a movie, for a burned copy??

Just trying to make suggestions to save you some money. Like I said...unless you're hard up for the ACTUAL hardcover (which it appears you are). I wouldn't have the finances for something like that right away, so I might find the photocopies useful until I had the appropriate means.

I know man..thanks for the suggestion.

Finances aren't really an issue, as long as the content is sufficient. I see $200 as a worthy investment if it means the successful keeping and breeding of multitudes of snakes in the future. I'm sure I'll see a return eventually......not that the knowledge wouldn't be enough of a return.

When I was in Australia, up in Kakadu (just south of Darwin), I saw a little carpet python, about 2 feet long, out hunting at night. Couldn't catch him though as when I got about 5 feet to him he went down a hole.

Nice little gaffers they are. I'll tell you that experiencing their natural weather was cool, it must have been a constant 30-35C in the day, 100+ humidity (wet season), and about 30-32C at night. Very lush habitat as well and leaf litter.

I have the book...wouldn't pay $200 bucks for it. I bought it from the Barkers themselves last year at a much lower price.

You won't get any information from it that you can't get anywhere on the Net or from other breeders. But its a collector's item. So if you are looking to spend $200 because you want to learn how to breed Carpets, give me $100 and I'll tell you EVERYTHING you need to know.

But if you want to buy the best book on Aussie Pythons by the two PIONEER breeders in the industry, then yeah, buy the book. But I wouldn't buy it just to learn to breed Carpets. I think that'd be like buying a Ferrari to get your learner's licence.
