Questions for Canon Powershot users

How do you Powershot users dump your pics onto your computer?? What programs do you use to resize/touch up your photos?? I've been trying to do it using the Arcsoft PhotoImpression software that came with my A75, but am having difficulty figuring it all out. All help and advice is greatly appreciated. Anyone nice/patient enough to walk me through it, can pm me. Thanks in advance.

Colin

If you would like me to clarify things or be more specific about my problems, feel free to let me know.

Mods, you can delete this thread if you want. I got impatient waiting for replies, smoked some concentration medication, and figured it out myself Sorry for the inconvenience.

Why not share then for the OTHER people that maybe had the SAME question and the SAME impatience, but couldn't figure it out?? Then it wouldn't be an inconvenience OR a wasted thread.

OoooooooooooooK

This is how I did it it without reading the manual (which I find to be quite vague and next to useless).

1. Install the Arcsoft CameraSuite software that comes with your camera. Hopefully they all come with this.

2. While camera is powered off, connect it to your pc via the usb cable. this also should have come with your camera.

3. Power camera on.

This will automatically open up the CameraSuite d/l transfer menu. Close this.

4. On the camera itself, select "Transfer All".

This will start transferring your photos. I would suggest editing the photo album on your camera so that it only contained the few select photos you want to upload to your computer. This transfer process can be quite lengthy if you take your pictures on the camera's higher resolution settings. When the transfer completes it will display your photos in the Zoom Browser.

5. Click once on the photo that you wish to manipulate.

6. On the left, click on "View & Modify"

7. Click on edit image.

This will open up a new window, which will be PhotoImpression.

8. At the top, click on "Enhance".

9. On the right click on "Crop".

10. Select "Free hand crop".

You can then by clicking and dragging, crop your photo down, to eliminate any excess background in the picture. This will make your file size smaller. When finished, click on "Crop" in the bottom right corner.

11. If you wish to manipulate your picture further you can then click on "Fix".

This will give you a few options in enhancing your image. You can "Enhance" it, and manipulate the brightness/contrast, hue/saturation, and sharpen/blur settings if you so choose to do so. I prefer to not use anything in the "fix" menu.

12. Click "Resize".

Here you can select the overall size of your finished image. I find for the purposes of posting on the forums that a size as close as you can to 800 x 600 is good. Make sure that it is set for "pixels" and that you check the box marked "Keep aspect ratio", this will automatically adjust your dimensions upon what you type in as the width. ie 800. The manner in which you first cropped the photo effects the automatic size settings somewhat.

13. Once finalizing your desired size, click on "Apply".

14. Go to File>Save As

15. Select your desired folder you want the images to go to.

16. Type in desired file name, and select file type as .jpg

17. Save

That is how I did it on my A75, using the provided software. There may be a better way to do it, and I don't know if it works the same for all the Powershot series. For an example of how the photos turned out, you can check out my recent thread in the Morelia Spilota forum, titled "New Cam, Fresh Shed". All pics were taken on manual settings (still trying to figure these out as well and have no clue on how to go about describing how to use them) then transferred on to my comp using the above steps. I then followed the steps in the "How to" forum, on uploading pics to a member gallery. I then followed the steps on how to add images to posts/threads, found in the same "How To" forum, and voila!!!

Hope this was helpful to those who needed it.

I'm sure that will help tons of people as the A-series of Canon is a very popular camera among herpers. Maybe it could be a sticky thread.

One thing, USB does not require any device to be shut off for connecting or disconnecting. I can take pictures with my camera, with the USB attached, and then just flip the toggle switch between camera and display and upload the pics on the fly. Not a big deal, just a time-saver.

Good thread.

Just a note: You don't need to edit anything on your camera as you can select which images you want to upload onto your computer with the software. The Canon software gives the option to select all, select new, or you can manually select which ones you want to download.
Cheers,
Ryan

If you have XP, you can also just use the native digi-cam software right on the OS. Its super fast and ultra compatible. No need for 3rd part software.
