Ok that eye is just scary

Ok for a followup on my 0.1 beardie with the bad eye and parasites. Followup appointment with the vet shows that I got rid of the parasites, so yay. And she's also gained good weight. But he's honestly stumped about what's wrong with her eye...

I contacted the breeder and he said that they sometimes get sand in their eyes but it washes out. I don't think that's it either, I don't keep her on Sand, she's on paper towel and sand would have washed out by now. She got a bath and that should have rinsed out her eye too since she went ahead and dunked her head.

So I tried to snap some pics, but as she hardly ever opens it right away, I couldn't get the best ones

This is what she usually looks like, one eye closed:

But occassionally she'll open it, especially if I ONLY stand on the blind spot, she'll open it and look at me with the bad eye, depending on the angle you stand at. Sometimes it looks like a black pit with no eye, other times it looks like a little gold ball with no pupil, sometimes it looks all black with no gold. It tears up if she keeps it open for long though...

But then today the WEIRDEST thing happenned. I had just fed them their lettuce and she was just sitting there. I was watching my male eat in his enclosure and I heard a *POP* just like in the pringles commercials...I look in her enclosure and her GOOD eye had popped out. I'm serious. It just popped and it looked like this guys: http://www.freakinasheville.com/NEWS...bug%20eyes.jpg

Then it popped right back in and was fine. She hadn't been straining at all, not pooping or anything. Does anyone know a reptile vet in Sudbury? Because I really want her looked at, I can deal with a half blind or even fully blind beardie, I don't mind, but I want to know that she's ok, which to me, she doesn't seem to be.

This is her good eye, after the popping ordeal, as you can see, back to normal:

I'm so lost, and so is my vet...ugh...

UPDATE: Looking online I found this, I still think it's highly unlikely, however, it is a bit encouraging as far as her normal eye is concerned...

Quote:
my 4 week old bearded started to do something with his eyes. like they the eye get super big and in some seconds they are back to normal.

what should that be? help me please
when he do that it look like a hammer shark.
This was replied to by the following:

That's normal. All dragons do it at some point or another. There are several theories as to why they do, one is that they're cooling off, another is that they're stretching their skin prior to shedding.

At any rate, don't worry about him!

As far as why the eye looked like it did and why she was having troubles with it, i can't answer.

But i can tell you the eye popping thing is completly normal. I've seen my 2 do it about 1/2 dozen times. The first time i seen it i freaked out, until i did find out it was normal.

I have been fallowing your posts about your beardies eye and I am starting to wonder if maybe it isnt a deformity? Any way If you plan on breeding your beardies I would probably take her back to the breeder to ensure no weak genes are passed on to further generations, and If it is JUST your PET and she is gaining weight/ eating healthy it probably isnt that big of a deal. You will just have to learn to live with a beardie that is blind in one eye/

Jamie: Yeah the eye popping scared the living S*** out of me. But I've read up alot now and everyone is saying it's normal.

concept3: She's just a pet. And I'm hoping it's just a bad eye or she's blind in one eye. That's fine for me. The only thing I'm worried about is an infection that ends up spreading or anything else that will, in the long run if left untreated, have an adverse affect on her health.

I breed beardies and when you see it everyday it becomes a normal thing. Sometimes I wish I can get a pic of them doing that. It is weird when you have 15 3 month olds in a cage and you see 6 of them venting.

that eye looks like an infection. Has it swell yet?

When I was buying my dragons, the breeder had a problem like this with one of the babies that I had picked. It turned out that there was a piece of shed skin stuck behind its eye. Not sure if that is the problem or not, but thought I would throw it out there. Hope it gets better.

beardieguy: haven't seen any swelling as of yet. I'm still searching for a vet that specializes in reptiles as mine was not helpful at all.

Greg: good suggestion, I'll bring it up to the vet if I find one.
