Bulbs

Can someone give me a review on these lamps?

Reptile Blue Heat Spot Lamp

Sorry, that's the best picture that I can find.

Thank you,

from my *personal* experience, a lot of the specialty reptile heat bulbs aren't any different then using regular incandescent lightbulbs you can get a the grocery store. I've also noticed that the "reptile" bulbs burn out a whole lot easier and are a lot more fragile. Granted, I have only needed to use heat lights for daytime uses.

others who use lighting for nighttime heating might have another opinion.

Sorry if this didn't directly answer your question, but it's good information to have. I hate seeing people spending $10 on a 100w "reptile" bulb when you can spend the money better on a regular lightbulb.

depending on the wattage, you might want to look into other nocturnal heating. If you are looking to heat a larger area, you might want to go to home depot. I have purchased big halogen floodlamps (and the infrared heat lamps). they are about the same price as reptile bulbs, but mine have lasted me a very long time.

Best of luck

I use a 40 watt light bulb in my enclosures, which costs approximately 40 cents. It heats the enclosure just as good as a $10 "reptile" bulb.

I've used those. Other than the blue color (which looks like day-light peaking through a window), the heat is he same as any other bulb of the same wattage.

As far as heating goes, they do produce slightly less visible light (not just filtered) and thus, more heat than an average incandescent lamp (Blue and red night time versions only). Even the NOMA heat lamps give off significantly more light. Less light and a "moon light" blue is a bit more pleasing to the human eye, buy arguably seems to make little difference to the animals. Agreed they do seem to have a seemingly short life expectancy. For the economics I do not use them.

Here's my personal evaluation.

ZooMed (moonlight blue):
Visable light: A
Heat and penetration: C+
Longevity: C
Cost: D
Overall: C

Zoomed (infrared):
Visable light: A+
Heat and penetration: A
Longevity: D
Cost: D
Overall: C+

NOMA heat lamp:
Visable light: D
Heat and penetration: B+
Longevity: A+
Cost: A+
Overall: A
