Baby with mites...
Hi everyone, well my new little burm arrived and she has mites, Normally I would just treat a new animal, but with her being young will a nix treatment harm her? I am so sick of mites, I have been battling them for the past year I finally got rid of them about a month ago and now there back, Luckly I saw one on her as soon as she came out of the box, and now she and anything that touches her will go nowhere near my collection she’s living in my living room and anything that came into contact with her got tossed.
I will have pic's of her tonight She’s just a het albino but amazing too me non the less and so tiny its amazing too hold her curled up in the palm of my hand and look at the male that i picked up this time last year who is huge by comparison.

1. Who sold you a snake with mites??? People need to know this.
2. Just use a weaker solution for a longer period of time if you're so worried. No problem.

Thanks Jeff, I'll do that tonight before these damn things take hold. As for the dealer I purchased the burm from Pete of KPT Reptiles. I purchased an animal from him last year and he was a good guy too deal with. So I did again this year,, I let him know the animal had mites I hope he thinks too contact people he's been selling too too let them know they may have mites. He was a good guy too talk and deal with that why I don’t want make it seem like I’m "Bashing him" for having mites, they are hard too fight, I know that first hand , Since another animal I brought in had mites as well and it was a pain in the a** for me too fight them .

I've used vapona with a baby corn with no problems back when a certain pet store in Fredericton gave them to me and I had no problems but you have to know how to use it. A much more safer method of treatment and faster to is nix. Water it down and you will have no problem treating your snake.
Jeff's right. People who have mites and they know they do and still sell snakes or don't tell the buyer should be called on it. Maybe when sales start to drop they will do something about it.
Cheers,
Trevor

Well I just treated her for mites and I treated the cage she’s in as well (I put her down into it while I mixed up the nix. so I sprayed it down completely (better safe then sorry).
I took some great shots with my digi cam but cant get them onto my PC, i have no idea why, I used too use my other computer but since got rid of it, now i cant manage too get this one too work. I was hoping too get a pic of the hatchling burm on here. everybody’s quick too show picks showing off massive sizes but I rarely see a pic with a tiny burm( at least not ones with something as a good size reference). Hopefully I get the problem worked out in the next couple of days and will get some pics of her up.

What I did when I had to use nix was to put the snake in a rubbermaid and spray it and just leave it over night. I treat 100% off all new animals now when they arrive. I keep them in a seperate room for just over two weeks. I treat them then in two weeks I treat them again then unless I'm weighting for a fecal to be done I move them into my snake room.
I take it this burm came from out of province?
Cheers,
Trevor

Yes it came in from Ontario, I put the breeders name above. I don’t know of anyone in province breeding burms yet, I gave her a bath in nix solution then sprayed down the cage, let it set for a second put in some paper towel, put her back in and give it a quick mist with nix treatment. in a day I’ll put a water bowl in there for her, and treat her again in a week or so.

That sounds right Devon. I would wait a full two weeks though before treating again because that is the gestation period for mites. No one is breeding burms yet in NB, I'm not so sure that is a bad thing. IMO
Good luck,
Trevor
