thanks to everyone for your help. my python i belive was three weeks old when i bought him,hes not my first but hes been some trouble hes in a 15gallon tank hes temps are 86-73 he has a hide on the cool side and some sticks to hide under on the other side(heat) ive had him in my closet alone for the last two weeks and the only time ive opened his tank was to put in food or change his water i boght two babys from the same clutch and one died 3 days later i belive it was respitory but i didnt kno and no one could tell me i hope this info can help you help me
That is MUCH too cold, his cool side should be in the 80's, his hot side at 90! Never let it fall as low as you have it!
also, a 15 gallon is MUCH too big for a baby ball python! Get a small rubbermaid, put holes in it and wait till next year to put him in the 15g.
Get rid of the sticks, and get a full-cover hide. Balls get stressed very easily. Up those temps to at least 90, but more likely 92-93. Put him in an 11 liter rubbermaid and give him some light, getting him out of the closet, but still keep him out of a higher traffic area. Pick up a book (or two, or three) on the captive husbandry of ball pythons. Read them, and all you can.
okay...... hot side at 91.6 and the cool side at 83.2.
also, originally I thought this was a baby, but he wrote and said that's what he came in when he originally got him, so I'm thinking he's either from last year or at least a few months old. if he's from last year, the 15 gallon is okay.
