Most species of what's called 'House Geckos' do call. The general description could be similar to an irate squirrel. Allow a bit of difference between species for accents but it's similar in most of them. Usually they call at night, hoping to attract a mate or scare someone out of their territory. They do call during the day as well, but not often.
I had a group of Frenautis Hemidactylus (sorry about the spelling). They called to each other all the time, but particularly at night. The calling was usually accompanied by chasing and mating, so I'm inclined to think it was sexually motivated. However, I had two males at one point who called to each other, but in a different way. Their noises where also paired with waiving tails (similar to cats' tails when they are irritated). That's how I found out I had two boys in the cage! I found them to be very interesting and entertaining pets.
