Angry Bylaws

Does anyone know where I could read the Bylaws on Pythons for the Municipality of Georgina in Ontario? I'm going to be moving there and I just found out the don't allow Pythons, at all. Doesn't matter what size they are, no pythons. So I'm trying to figure out what is the concequence of owning a python, just a fine or do they take the animals away? Anyone have any experiance in this area? Also what is the process to get a bylaw changed? Any of this information would be great.

In my opinion, I wouldn't worry about changing the bylaw, that'll just put a HUGE bullseye right between your eyes in your new home town. "Don't ask, don't tell" has worked well for me in the past.

mykee That is what people in this hobby have been doing for years and all it does is allows uneducated people within the munisipalities (sp)? to dream up all these laws. (keep doing what you are doing and keep getting what your getting)
Of course taking action alone would not be good for you.

Yea I know, it's pretty much the action I'm going to have to take. I already have a Ball Python and have 2 more on the way. I'll just have to be quiet about owning them. It's not a big deal anyway, not like a went paradeing around like a moron with them over my sholders. But I'd still like to find out a way to change the law, I mean All pythons that's just stupid. Under that law even a Childerns python wouldn't be allowed, and there really small! I gotta get a full copy of the Laws cause I think they may allow King snakes but not pythons which again just shows the plain ignorance of these people.

Jayson, they can go ahead and dream up all the laws they want, but if you're a responsible, intelligent herper, you can live a happy, bylaw-infringing, hush-hush, snake-lovin' life.

No just the municipality of Georgina, each municipality has it's own laws. As an example I currently live in the GTA where you are allowed to own a python as long as it is no longer then 6 ft I beleive. But in Georgina which is 45 mins away from the GTA you not allowed any pythons at all.

by-laws are different in literally every city/town/area! I was in one with NO by-laws, i could have had anything we wanted, then moved to a "no python" area..... in which we loudly commented on our "corn snake" and "cal king" just in case anyone heard (we have 13 pythons)! Now we are in toronto, where the snake breed can't be over 3 m & lizards over 2 m, so we are pretty much safe.

so yeah, don't ask, don't tell, and fight the by-law..... just don't give them your address!

mykee That only works untill someone complains
I tried to moved to a community in the area of Indian River near the Reptile zoo, it was the same township but this community have some of their own bylaws. I did not know a single person in this area and i did not speak to anyone from this area but about a week before we were ready to move in I got a call from the town council saying that i would not be aloud to move in with my snakes and lizards, how he found out? I have no Idea to this day.
My point is, if they do find out, no matter how slim the chance they could make your life really crappy and in the end the animals many times pay the price when they are taken and in many cases uthinized (sp)?
I was lucky in this case as i found another place to move within that week. from now on i will always check local bylaws before moving.

I must agree with Mykee, and Jayson. 99% of the time, you tell no one and you don't have much to worry about.

One person cannot fight the city council and win, most the time.
If you have a lot of people who will go to the meetings and stand up for herps, then you have a chance. As it is, it's easier to keep it quiet.
