massasauga rattler *pics*

It was nice too see some native snakes at the Zoo! These guys were really active at the time and one was going back and forth right up at the glass! Little buggers though!

Here is another rattler, I can't remember the name of it now but it was Pacific something....terrible with hot snake names...anyways you guys will know it,

Massasaugas are fun little snakes, they've been my primary hot interest for a couple years now. I have deserts and westerns... I sure wish I knew someone who had easterns in captivity and was willing to sell them.

Hi Marisa, thats a North Pacific Rattlesnake [Crotalus viridis oreganus] and its a male. Nice pictures,its neat to see the snakes I look after every day from a different perspective. Grant

I wish keeping Massassaugas were legal. They are awesome snakes. I heard they do really poorly if reintroduced into the wild after being captive though.

Heh, try being dumped naked in the woods after growing up being pampered and having your meals served in bed.

I heard its a locational thing from experts...even if they are captive for like a few days I was told there is a huge fatality rate in them. If the are taking from a spot then released in the same habitat like a mile away they do very poorly.
