Even though they are common, cal kings remain one of my favorite snakes and this big female (over 5 feet) has been with us a few years now (originally a rescue from the Edmonton Reptile and Amphibian Society). These two are our only cal kings but I wouldn't part with them!
We are breeding her (Dixie) this year because last year she suprised us with 28 slugs that took quite a while to pass. I would rather have her lay fertile eggs than get egg bound with slugs. I am hoping that given how common the albino gene is, she will be het, and we will have a few albino cal kings poking their noses out of eggs.
The male is a hellion - crazy feeding response and hates to have his sleep disturbed - this pic was during brumation this year. He is a pretty one though - partially striped and partially banded so will be neat to see what turns up for patterns in the clutch.
