It's herper...not herpes! lol

I never realized this but...
I keep a blog (livejournal.com) and some of my non-herper friends didn't realize that when I write *I'm going to the herp meeting tonight* I mean herpetology meeting, not an STD support group!
Has anyone else had to make this distinction for people before?

Ugh, soooo many times, or they'll just laugh and be like, "OMG It sounds like herpes, hahaha"...honestly it gets so old lol

I keep an LJ too

I forget the exact root of both words, but it basically means "to crawl." Apparently certain forms of herpes can cause a "crawling" sensation of the skin. The reptilian connection should be obvious.

Cheers,
Dave

I don't even say herp to most people, snakes makes them shudder enough.

Arrrrgh it makes me so mad!! lol. My brother's always make fun of me like... "you're going to a herpes meeting??" and I'm like "Ugh, shut up!" People at school sometimes dunno what I'm talking about... "you have herpes? what?" So I always have to "correct" myself and say I'm talking about reptiles. Kind of gets annoying after a while.
