beardie care

im thinking about getting a bearded dragon, but id like to know some general info from you guys about them. ive read a couple care sheets but none say how big they get. im kinda pulled between getting an african fat tail gecko or a beardie. i have 2 leos already and cant make up my mind about which animal to get. a bearde or an AFT.

can someone give mesome solid info about these beautiful little lizards?

Males average 19-23 inches but can occasionally exceed 2 feet. Females average 17-21 inches. Beardies need a good amount of floor space and do best in cages at least 4x2x2 feet.

At 4x2x2, I wouldn't recommend any more than a pair either. If you add more females, add at least another foot on to the cage per critter.

10 gallon is a bit small. why dotn u jsut wait till xmass to get the beardie and cage? also maybe block off half of teh 4by2by2 if its just a baby so u can monitor feeding and stuff.

patients is key

Make sure that you buy all the accessories before you bring home a new dragon. You should have an enclosure set up and heated to proper temps with a heat lamp...lighting that included UVB etc.

That stuff can be more expensive than the tank and the beardie so if your saving up...get that stuff before you bring home the little guy.

I would definitely say ''Go with the beardie!''

I own 2 african fat tail geckos and all they do is hide! They are very sweet geckos but they're B-O-R-I-N-G! Bearded dragons are MUCH more active and they love to cuddle, and they have so much personality! Beardies are great pets to own, I think everyone should have one.

Some general advice: I agree, buy everything you need and have it set up and running for at least 48 hours before buying the actual dragon. Get the temperatures right and make sure everything is correct, and then when your dragon comes home with you you will know that you have not forgotten anything! Good Luck! And as far as the cage goes, I agree... 10 gallons is too small, better to start with a 20L and then upgrade to a 50 gal. when the dragon reaches around 12 inches in total length.
