Spend all your money on snakes?

I was just wondering how many people actualy spend all there money on snakes or snake products.

I have some money saved up and wanted to buy me a IJC and a new boaphileplastics cage but i kinda wanted to get some new shoes and outfits as well lolz.

When you have a certain amount of money to spend do you find it hard to spend it on anything other than snakes?

The reason i ask is because i dunno if its normal to spend all your spending money on snakes when your already on a low income lol.

I spend all my money on snakes... that's the only reason I work and the only thing I save up for (ie 800$ etb, 500$ cages, plus normal expenses). I'll spend 50$ on clothes on occasion (hurray for Zellers) but I'd have to say I spent 95% of what I spend on herps.
I recently bought a 600$ camera (which I'm still paying off) but the only thing I photograph are snakes and lizards so I see it as being a herp-related expense

No definitly not.

That would be stupid especially since I do not own a house. If I owned a house the story may be different. LOL. But as it is now you can only own so many snakes in a rented place, and we enjoy buying clothes and other crap. hahaha.

It's not normal ! We're a bunch of freaks !! But nothing you can do about it

I don't smoke or drink that much and don't do drugs. Some people would waste it in smoke, I waste it on reptiles.

I don,t remember the last time I went to Home Hardware for something other than enclosure material, plants, etc...

And when I have extra $$ I'm allways thinking of what herp I could buy

But I calmed down a bit in the past months... na.. I'm lying

But that's what hobbies are for... look a people who love cars, hunting, hockey, drugs, etc... They spend all there money on that... it's the same for them. Didi you ever calculate how much smoking can cost in a year ? 3000$ and more, and it's up in smoke.. If you ever sell your reptile collection, you'll at least get some of the money back and you didn't ruine your health.

Hard to say if it's normal or not, but you're not alone if that's what you wanted to hear.

I spend most of my money on my herps. But, I don't have a job and so I don't have much money to begin with.

But I do have a big list of things I'd like to purchase, all herp related.

I'm on a very low budget, so a decent chunk of my monthly income goes towards snakes

Actually I fight the urge to buy snakes or lizards. It can really be hard when a great deal presents it's self. I have the money and time to take care of the animals that I have but not alot of time to take proper care of any more than I already have. It's so damn hard to be practical.

Well luckily Vanan and I own our home, so we could fill it to ceiling with herps, but Vanan has something which many of us lack, it is called "self restraint" I call it being a stick in the mud, but it gets our bills paid. We both work, split the bills and pay for our *seperate collections* with our own money. When I have a chunk of cash it's hard to decide on more cages or more snakes. Next year I plan on a lot of enclosure purchases to upgrade some of the large herps, plus heat tape would be nice and so would finishing the basement.

about 75% of my extra money goes to reptiles. I also have an ever growing music collection that needs adding to occasionally. I just spent $500 on a new camera, plus about $400 on christmas presents. I'm pretty broke, so no new herps for christmas for me . Next year I am building enclosures all year and purchasing a chondro or two.

You have to waste your money on something...drugs, booze, women/men..so since I have done all that ..it's the snakes turn..lol...anyways it is a healthy and educational habit.....you know when you have a good hobby when everything you see at a lawn sale you say" How can that relate to snakes or their enclosures"...lol...

Fiou ! I'm not the only one

And not just lawn sales... items in the trash on garbage nights also

Before something goes to the trashcan in our house, we look at it and see if we can't use it for something herp related

That's why we can spend money on animals, anything we have for reptiles is usaly something we recycled, more money left for new babies.

We are on an EXTREME low income. We spend MAYBE $70 in food bill for snakes. Luckily none has had to go to the vet. And I mean extreme, like rent is 300$ *usd* and we make 400-600 monthly. So technicaly almost all our money is spent on herps. MAYBE.......have I ever said this place sucks? so

LOL Katt! Send some of Vanan's restraint this way! Better yet, get him to draw me out a budget and if I fail to stick to it, 50m lashes with a wet noodle!! Ha ha!
