Question Winter Cooling???

Alrighty, my Spotted Python is completely hydrated now, no more dry scales. However, I think she's kind of gone into a winter hibernation. Since, in the three years I've had her this is a first for me. I'd like to know what, on MY part, should I be doing.

She's not eating which I heard was perfectly normal as long as she's not losing weight, which she's not.

She spends all of her time in her Sphagnum Moss hide.

What should I be doing?

As this is my first time with a whole winter cooling thing, I'm a bit worried that if I just leave her be for the winter and try to feed her again next spring, I'm going to open her hide and find a dead snake lol

Help is good

Jenn

You should cool the snake down to about 70-72 at nite and 77-80 in the day. If you are going to breed I'd lower the temps even more.
Remember to check on the snake once or twice a week to make sure it doing fine.Don't feed it at all. the snake might try to feed but at low body temps they won't digest properly or not at all.
The temp drop should be done over a few weeks.
make sure the snake has water at all times, and if it is getting stressed or sick bring the temps right up.
cooling should be for a few months. Some people do it longer some shorter.

is cooling necessary if you don't want to breed?

well..if she dies..im sure you will smell her way before spring comes. :-/ .

Ok on a serious note. I wouldnt worry to much. My ball python hasnt come out in weeks. I went through this last year. He fasted for 8 months. I would just make sure the temps dont drop to low and she has water, other than that..she will be fine. This time of year I try to feed him only once a month, just to see if he will take food. So far he hasnt shown any interest in eating. Its amazing how long snakes can go without food!
