Question Do your leos ever do that?? :P

Hey!

My geckos often try to climb on the walls of their tanks and sometimes for a few hours per night! They have plenty of room except my new female (in the pic) who is in a 10gal for quarentine.

My adult HY used to do that when he was young, but not anymore, and I haven't seen the girls do it at all... they might be learning the boundaries of their environment or something? If learning is at all possible, that is...

Yep Most of mine have done it at one time or another -- some do it all the time, some only every once in a while... it's pretty cute really Its official term is "The Gecko Dance"

I couldn't say it's cute. Whenever they do that, i try to find a way to reduce that stress. It is stress they are feeling that time and they are not happy or dancing.
Let's not humanize our herps

Put yourself in a clear glass container and see if you don't try to escape! They cannot tell the difference. So, they are always trying to get out of their "invisible" enclosures.

Yep some of mine do it. Mostly domino and lucky. Domino does it when i'm not giving her enough attention. She will climb on the wall (or air) until i pick her up and bring her out for a while. Lucky will only do it when the tv is on or if i'm next to his cage. He will just stand there leaned up against the glass, not moving unless he starts to slip. He's such a little character.

You could cover up the bottom 1/3 or so your tank's sides with newspaper or tank background or something and see if it helps calm them down at all...

The first lizard I had was a holaspis guentheri, or bluetailed african rock lacerta (to name one of the common names lol) that always tried to climb into the strip of tank backing I had, it was actually an underwater plant scene but all he saw was green plants and ZOOM! off he went. He stopped that when I put in a chunk of wood full of cracks to hide in

Mine do it. I think they just get curious about what's behind the glass. Sometimes I just take them out and they're satisfied. They never hurt themselves though.

My 2 males do it every time it is feeding night and they see the mealworm container. I'm pretty sure they know what the container means. They also do this when they see my yellow Zoomed feeding tweezers, as these are what I fed them off of all their life. Even if I stick the tweezers in or around the cage without food on the end they still go nuts.
