What are the laws regarding venomous snakes in canada? Is it at all possible to own one privately here in a city that normally allows herp ownership. I own several false water cobras, and it has always been my dream to own a REAL cobra so I was curious if it was even feasible?
Any info or links to info would be helpful.
Thanks,
KIM
BTW I own an exotic animal biz if that would help with any permits or anyhing like that.

I believe it's a provincial thing then a municipal thing. Check your provinces fish and wild life acts for specific legislation on exotics. Then check your comunities by-laws.
Cheers,
Trevor
Venomous reptile laws are municipal but even if your not barred from owning them you can still get in trouble with them as a public safety issue. For the sake of mentioning it, f.w.c.'s are nothing like true cobras in behaviour and working with the one is not a good method of preparing for the other. The other thing worth mentioning is that naja are more difficult to acquire than other venomous in Canada as they are CITES II and thus more problematic to bring across the border.
This is what we intend to so actually With the False Water Cobras we will use this as a practice method understand this is not something we would consider as present for we have children it would be something for long after they would be gone.
Thank you for the info.
Does anyone else here currently have the F.W.C?
