Rainwater vs. Tremper

What is the difference between Rainwater albino and tremper albino? Which is better and why? Is it all personal pref? I keep hearing of both these lines, i just want to know the diff.

Long answer... ok maybe ust long WINDED answer!

I'll give this a shot

Both are different strains of albinism. This means that you cannot breed a Tremper to a RWA (called Las Vegas now) and end up with an albino. You'll get hets for both. At the moment no one can explain why this occurs (with any significant accuracy yet at least). Both strains involve T+ mutations in LG DNA yet they aren't compatible. Plenty of controversy over which is better, each strain has arbitrary advantages over the other. Las Vegas "supposedly" keep their colours bright with age, while Tremper's "supposedly" gray or brown out a little. Taking a look at what people have been selling as these strains I would have to admit that Las Vegas has been a little brighter. If you were to purchase a NEW Tremper albino, I'd say that Las Vegas just hasn't been developed as well and as such can't compare at all. So there sure is controversy! On a less confusing note, When Las Vegas was called Rainwater it was due to the originator of that strain, Tim Rainwater. Some issues arose with his business ethics and he took off leaving plenty of dissatisfied customers. Tremper strain is also named after the originator as well, Ron Tremper.

Now speaking as Tremper's Canadian Distributor I expect you to believe that my opinion is a tad biased, however I truly believe that our strain is superior. I have seen pics of early developments of both strains, however I have recent animals from the source himself and these blow anything I've seen out of the water. I give the edge to Tremper since he's had more time to develop the strain, he has introduced several designer albino morphs, the fact that he's been doing this for 20+ years, and the fact that he continues to tease out new designer strains even today. Next year expect BLUE albinos and Tang Jungles from us

I guess when you look at it that way you really see that there really isn't any competition as far as a comparison is concerned. Then again, it's just my opinion

I hope others post on this I want to hear what others think as well. I know Memento will back me up here, I hope he can post pics of his new babies, I will as well when I figure out how!

I threw alot of info out there, if you didn't get what you were looking for let me know.

I agree 100% with what Double G said, he is right on the money. It really is a matter of personal preference as to which one you chose. As of now RW's are a little more expensive than trmpers, but neither are priced very high, usually running between $75-150 for hatchlings. I myself also prefer the trempers simply because they have been around just a lil longer, and are availble in far more variations.
Hope this is of help to you,
Shawn
