Question Help with lighting??

My girl will be here tomarrow and all weekend I've been piddling with her tank trying to get temps right. Well I've come to the conclusion that the uth isn't going to cut it. I've got a 20 gal long terrarium with a slide in screen top. I am going to have to use lighting to keep the warm end of her tank warm enough. I have the equipment for the lighting: clip lamp with metal hood, 75 watt incandescent bulb, and a repti heat black light bulb for night time. Right now I've got it positioned 2 and a half to 3 feet above the warm end of her tank and I'm waiting for the temps to get right. BTW I will have a rheostat by the end of today which i know is necessary with the lights. Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for such a long post.

you may not need a heat light at all, your UTH is prob warmer than you think. i read in chat what you guys were talking about. Take their advice and get an indoor outdoor thermometer with a probe on it and set the probe on the floor above the UTH. you will be surprised how hot it is. i used to use lights but do not in the summer time anymore. i just use them in the winter due to it getting so friggin cold here. if you are too worried put like a 50 watt bulb in and see what the snake does. your snake will tell you everything you need to know.
if the snake always stays on the cool side then it is too hot. if it stays on the hot side all the time then it is too cold and so on.

Good luck
Tim
