Question Strike and miss?

I was feeding my male BP yesterday. He gets one live mouse every week, yes I know I know feeding live is not safe but its all he will take at the time he’s new to his home so I’m slowly trying to get him to eat pre-killed

Anyways yesterday I made the mistake of sending my father out with out me to buy a mouse and he picks up this HUGE:bugged: and I mean HUGE :bugged: mouse that’s humping everything in sight.

I put the mouse in and Lestat (The BP) strike at it once and missed this happened three more times. Is he just having an off day, I mean do they ever miss? I just hope nothings wrong with his motor skills.

Thanks any advise would be great!

Bp's usually miss a few times during feedings...when i used to keep balls, they would strike all over the place before actually getting em....if ur gonna feed live, at least bang them on the head a couple times to daze them...that way there will be a less chance of them biting ur snake as well as make it easier for ur snake to get them...especially if its big mouse!

My BP missed a mouse a while back. Then they both sat there and stared at each other.
The snake was doing his best to outstare the mouse, and the mouse was twitching his tail just like a rattlesnake. It was quite the sight. They stared like that for about a minute and then the mouse lunged for the snake.
That was the second to last thing he ever did.

In my oppinion its normal too ..

but it can also be that your snake is not hungry and is striking out of protection and is not trying to coil its prey ..

I know my balls where not hungry, they would strike and not constrict only to get the rat away ( now they feed dead - yeah! Took me over a year to switch them)

Country:
i have a perfectly healthy male bp at home that misses his prey 2 or 3 times before he actually gets it. He has been doing this for about 2 years now

i wouldnt worry, as long as he is eating, he will be fine

Mine misses and I usually have to just leave it in the bottom of the cage until he finds it, usually tail first......sometimes arm first??? lol Then he figures out that he can't eat it arm first!
