Talking fatness

I know snakes can get skinny but can they get fat?
how do you know when the are fat. how do you know when they are skinny.
i have a coastel phase california kingsnake

Snakes can, and do get fat. Especially in captivity. You'll know a snake's fat when there's fatty lumps (usually near the cloaca). don't mistake this for an abcess or tumour though.

Also, snakes are mostly muscle and if the body feels soft and squishy and not hard when it's moving, it's probably on the fat side.

What I do to prevent fat snakes and to build muscle tone? Exercise them! I give my adults, especially breeding females, a long swim in the bathtub (helps increase their endurance) and for strength training they use 20lb weights! lol, j/k/ I give them lots of oppurtunities to climb. Sometimes even dangle them from the last 1/4 of their body and see if they can double back up onto ur hand. That's how I test to see if a female's got good muscle tone, b4 breeding.
