A new substrate...check this out

I have a snow day today so enjoy some new pics from me

So I decided to try the slate thing. Jake Jeff told me you could get 12x12" tiles of slate at home depot cut to size for 2 dollars each tile. I couldn't find slate but I found a ceramic tile that looked like it would work well. Here is Seneca's new 20 gallon long setup with the slate flooring:

I used 2 12"x12" tiles and had the third tile cut to 12"x4". I could have fit 12x5 but I wanted to leave an inch to make it easy to life up for cleaning. In this photo you can see the inch space. The white and blue thing is his moisture hide. He's also got a half log on this, the warm side.

On the right of this photo is the center of his enclosure where I have a rock cave which he loves as well as the waterdish/plan arrangement that he likes to crawl though. I planned out the arrangement so that these items cover the crack between the two 12x12s.

Here is his cool side/defectorium. I've left out the paper towel where he poops for the sake of these photos.

Here are a couple photos that more clearly show the texture and color of the tiles.

Finally, Here is a shot of the setup as a whole. I'm still playing with whether or not to use a UTH or heat lamp but so far he seems to really like it.

Thanks for the kind comments. Leos don't need much humidity except in the humid hide. He's never had any shedding problems and the water bowl is pretty big and evaporates quickly so I think it's fine. Not bad for 6 dollars eh?

Looks Good, we use ceramic tiles with UTH attached to give our breeders a 'hot spot'. Seems to work well with Leos, Fat Tails, Knob Tails, Sand Geckos, and Ground Geckos.

Thanks Pixie and Linds. He really seems to love it. I can't wait to get him a couple females to share it with him. Should I wait until Daytona in August or pick them up at the NY Expo in April. Decisions decisions . I have decided to leave both the red heat bulb and the UTH. The UTH helps to maintain overall warmth of the tile on the warm side and the bulb creates a nice hot spot so he really has quite a range of temps to choose from at this point. I highly recommend this route for Leo keepers who want a safe substrate, want to save paper towel, and want something that looks nice. I can't wait to do this for the others.
