question about che and hides.

I'm sorry if this question doesn't really make any sense, but here it goes..

So remy just got another enclosure upgrade. She is now being heated with a che. That is the only heat source and its working great. there is a hide under the che, will this heat the inside of the hide or not? im wonder? because i want her to be able to digest her meals.

She has 4 hotspots

1# hotspot is 95f
2# hotspot is 93f
3# hotspot is 91f
4# hotspot is 89f

1# coolspots 80f
2# coolspots 77f

Re: question about che and hides.

I use che's exclusively (except for quarantine tubs) and never have an issue with temperatures inside hides and most keepers I speak to do likewise. In fact I don't know any serious keepers who use uth's at all.

The che would heat the hide material and this in turn will radiate heat in to the hide cavity. If in doubt get a temperature gun and take a reading through the hide entrance out lift the hide up and quickly take a reading.

I don't think you'll find an issue though.

I have a temp gun. This is how i took all the hotspot measurements.

But once i get home, ill check the hide. Thanks for replying!

Re: question about che and hides.

There shouldn't be a problem with the snake getting enough warmth with the CHE inside the hide. A CHE or RHP by itself is more than adequate for a heat source, and like danny I prefer not to use UTH/heat tape. I feel it's inferior as it doesn't heat the air, and a CHE/RHP will provide belly heat, making a UTH/heat tape redundant.
