Amusing situtation

Bit of a random thought but thought I'd share. It's midnight and I'm sitting infront of my snakes. The only snake visible and moving is Mushu. Banzai has hidden after he was visible when I came down. Ono has curled up for the night. Yzma has been curled up her in humid hide the past few days after shedding. I found it funny that between a kingsnake, carpet python and a boa the pet rock is the one that pokes his head out at me in curiosity, seems to stare at me when I sit down and almost has a look of "hey why aren't you picking me up?"

Stop already, after temporarily housing a bunch of BP's I've already found them to be more interesting than I had previously thought. Last thing I need now is another addition to the collective to raise feeder rodents for. At midnight I can slip down to the basement to turn off the lights, and find at least a couple snakes active/roaming around their enclosures. That's the start of the Dominican's active time, and at least one of two the carpet pythons is usually moving unless they've been fed recently. I still refuse to give in to the BP temptation, holding out for prasina.

mac is in a room off of our livingroom. i turn off all the lighting in his room and every night he comes over to the side of the enclosure where he can watch what goes on in the lit livingroom. i thought it was just a fluke at first, but he does it every night. he is a sociable snake.

My BP was my first snake. I've also been lucky with him, as far as BPs go he is quite active and visible. Not the norm for sure but he is great for advertising BPs lol He has also been in a display cage from the beginning. Since moving to the basement and less ambient light he is out more as he sleeps in the open instead of his hide. It's dark enough in his cage I presume from monitoring his behaviour when compared to the ambient light.

I think they get a bad rep for being pet rocks, some are for sure but other members have had kings who are hidden all the time as well.

Put a ball in a naturalistic viv, give it some height and an option to climb (they are in fact semi arboreal-particularly males) and you'll never call them a pet rock again...
