=Graphic! DIE bicephalic Tessera corn=

The 7th egg in the 2016 Viper x Fiona clutch started growing a tiny halo of mold, so I decided it was probably dead and to cut it. When I did, I could tell it was indeed dead, so removed it from the egg. It was a very late term two faced Tessera.

This is why you shouldn't cut eggs if you are squeamish!
But I found it fascinating and am always relieved when there is a very obvious and reasonable reason for a baby not to make it out of the egg, such as this case.

Woah! Would you have kept it if it had lived? I sure would have!

This is both sad and cool, but thank you so much for sharing!!!

Poor little tyke.

If it had survived, I wonder what its quality of life would have been like. I've heard anecdotes of some two-headed snakes living more or less normally (albeit with shortened life spans), but have never personally encountered one.

Some can live a long and seemingly good life, the oldest two headed snake I've heard of lived to 22 years old. Most seem to die within a few years though. Not sure, but I was thinking that it appeared from where the division stopped, that eating might have been difficult or impossible for this one.

Wow....amazing what can happen. Looks like it wasn't in the cards for this little one to make it, but what a surprise to find.

Sadly some of the pitfalls of breeding. A double edged sword is what reptile reproduction can be for us even though we hope and prepare for the best. Mother nature has the final say.
