Im worried
So i just fed my snakes, and i always visually inspect each mouse before i feed it. So i get to the last mouse and its belly is covered in infected pimples. The other mice didnt have any but they were all part of the same batch of mice. Should i be worried?

Re: Im worried
Hi, what makes you think there was "infected pimples"? Maybe they were lactating nipples bc the mouse was pregnant or recently had a litter of babies. These are frozen thawed mice correct?

Re: Im worried
Yes, frozen. They were not nipples, they were scattered randomly across the bottom side of the mouse

Re: Im worried
Who was the supplier? Was it only on one mouse or do you see it on others? I would call the supplier and demand new bags of mice! If you can take a photo of it to send to the supplier to bolster your claim.

Re: Im worried
It was a pet store in new hampshire, ive always bought my mice there but im thinking of buying them in bulk from an online supplier. None of the other mice had it. It is my understanding that snakes digestive systems are very strong and resilient, but none the less im still nervous.

Re: Im worried
If I was at all concerned I would just throw it out. Two dollars is not worth my snakes health.

Re: Im worried
are you concerned that the others that you fed to your snakes may have had the same thing?

Re: Im worried
In all honesty I doubt it could harm your snake, I mean in the wild a snake will pretty much eat whatever it can catch. Don't predators go for the weak, old, sick, and injured anyway?

Re: Im worried
I did throw it out, and since they were part of the same batch of mice im a little concerned that the others might have the same thing.

Re: Im worried
sirtalis is right about the fact that snakes will eat anything they can get in the wild. with all the dirt, filth, etc, the rodents they eat get into-a snake's digestive system can handle just about anyhing. i wouldn't worry too much.

Re: Im worried
My thoughts exactly, plus its been frozen so that would probably kill anything harmful?

Re: Im worried
I went and looked into it a bit. It's impossible to tell what exactly it is without pictures, but it's possible the mouse had an allergic reaction to something before it died. Like I'm allergic to cats, and if one licks me or I pet one without washing my hands and arms after, I get really bad rashes.
Since it's on the stomach though, it could be a similar reaction to the bedding. It isn't an impossibility that the mouse was on some dusty pine shavings and developed a rash because of it.

Re: Im worried
