About time!

I've got a 100% superdwarf retic het anery female (born June 2013) that I've had since she was less than a month old. She was eating live when I got her which I was ok with because I've never had a problem getting my animals to switch to f/t (except for my old female dwarf burm, no idea what her problem was). Fast forward twelve months and she was still a stubborn live feeder. She is FINALLY taking pre-killed without issue. She's still a picky eater and it has to be fresh but she took a small rat from my fingers on Saturday with a little wiggling and a lot of patience. This is such a relief as I can finally start trying to get her onto f/t. She was eating small fuzzy rats when I got her and is on small (and soon to be medium) rats. I was definitely starting to get nervous because I really don't like feeding larger prey items live.

Re: About time!

Congrats!
You do know the easiest way to switch them is to wait them out. I know it's hard to do because none of us like to see your snakes not eat. The longest i had a snake go was 3.5 month's it was my WLP but once he took his first F/T for me that was it. he ate every week after that no problem. Heck it got to the point i didn't even have to shake it. I just drop it in and he nail it.

Re: About time!

Yes I'm aware, but I wasn't too concerned. I would rather have her eating than wait her out.

And thanks guys. I'll get some pics of the crew eventually.

Re: About time!

Congrats Kyle, always a good feeling. I've still yet to meet the Reticulated python that wouldn't take anything, but I certainly hear about it alot. Is this female from Travis?

Re: About time!

Congratulations! People will continually state that feeding live is dangerous and inhumane. Apart from that, it's also a major hassle at times.

Yeah.

I'm very careful when I do it. I'm not concerned with it being inhumane, the animals have to eat. It's the natural cycle of things. I'm fortunate that I've got a few stores close to me that sell live feeders.

Re: About time!

It left a big ole lump! It was a large, small rat. She won't eat again for two weeks now.
