Snake Hooks
What're your favorite hooks? I'm looking for one that can stand a good bit of weight, isn't collapsible, and isn't too expensive. Or if any of you can point me in the direction of how to make a durable one for cheap, that works too. Thanks guys!

Re: Snake Hooks
I have a 24"by Midwest tongs. It's great for small snakes and I use it for larger snakes too simply for giving them a tap when I'm about to handle or clean. It's small but honestly a large hook is just too bulky for most in home applications. But for the larger hooks I have, I made them from golf club handles and paint rollers. I'll look for a link, but it's pretty simple. Cut the head off a golf club. Take a paint roller and remove the plastic handle and roller, so all your left with is a hook. Then generously apply jb weld into the hole and the end of the golf club handle, and insert the paint roller frame. Leave it on a horizontal surface for 24 hours to cure. Make sure you put something under it because some jb weld will leak when it's drying. Once it's done, cut the hook if need be to a manageable size. Some paint rollers are small enough that this step isn't necessary. Then I like to grind the tip of the hook to an angle so it's easier to scoop the snake. Mine are rock solid and hold up really well.

Re: Snake Hooks
Thanks! I was looking at midwest tongs, but was wondering if I could make a decent one for cheaper. I was loking at their 30" standard hook. It'll be for my Columbian rainbow boas and the SD retic I plan on getting soon. Then one day I'll be getting a white lipped python so it'd have to work for that too. I think I'll look into making one with the golf club though, doesn't sound too difficult and doesn't look bad either.

Re: Snake Hooks
My favorites are the Midwest, Mark Oshea series. Very strong and you can have them custom made to size.

Re: Snake Hooks
Mine are mostly reptech, prefer them because they don't bend not even with the heavier bodied snakes But i also have a midwest hook which is just as good.
