Huge Prey Item

We always discuss and stipulate what size prey items we should feed our snakes. Our theories don't work in the wild, where it is not known when the next prey item will happen along. I caught this Southern Brown House snake this morning on a callout. It had eaten a huge prey item, in all likelihood a rat. This is not the first specimen with huge prey items I have caught over the years, and it never ceases to amaze me, the size prey items they are able to take on and subdue by constriction alone. The traces of blood on this specimen, I think are from a bite from the prey item, as I caught it with my bare hands.

Re: Huge Prey Item

Check out that scale separation! These really are amazing creatures. It's crazy to see what they can eat.

Re: Huge Prey Item

I think he wanted to become a ball python . . . that is crazy, on a side note, I once had a clutch of rubber boas, soon after birth one ate one of its siblings.
