Corn snake wont go to the warmth
I have had my 9 month old corn snake a few weeks ago, and so far so good. She seems to want to stay in the cold part and doesn't seem active though, and im starting to worry the heat matt isn't actually keeping it at a good temperature anyway, so I was wondering if i could get any advice. She is cold to the touch, but I have read that's normal. Is there any way to encourage her to go into the warm part? I live in England where it's pretty cold. Any advice?
Also anybody know the best heat mats to buy? I have been through 3, and none seem to keep it at the right temperature.
Thanks, Martin and Kimberley

Re: Corn snake wont go to the warmth
Most heat mats should be fine for a corn.
Could you list all the details of the enclosure? Heat, humidity, hides, heat sources...etc.
Are you using a thermostat to control the heat sources?(thermostats, not thermometers)

Re: Corn snake wont go to the warmth
I don't know your set up but she may be going to the warm side at night. Corn snakes are nocturnal. I catch my girl on the warm side of the enclosure at night sometimes.
What is your set up like though?

I agree, if your temps are correct, the snake will thermoregulate as it chooses. Might just be that it goes to the warm side when you aren't looking. Kind of like how you don't really see your snakes drink water often, but they still drink.

Re: Corn snake wont go to the warmth
mine are all over the place...both sides..but they are usually burrowed...only way to tell is to check for lumps in the substrate or look for noses poking out...if the heat mat isn't regulated with a thermostat, it may be too warm, and she may be avoiding it...

Re: Corn snake wont go to the warmth
This is what she is kept in (it was with her when we got her)
For some reason both pictures and links are being denied, but its a Exo Terra Large Flat Faunarium, 46cm x 30cm x 17cm
A basic heat mat (underneath the tank), aspen bedding, shes got a water bowel, coconut and bark for her to hide in
Hope this helps

What are your hot and cold end temps?

Is there anyway you can actually post a picture of the actual set up?

Re: Corn snake wont go to the warmth
make sure you have a hide on both ends of the enclosure, that way the snake won't have to choose between hiding and the temp it wants

Re: Corn snake wont go to the warmth
I've noticed that my corn snakes usually tend to stay on the cool side. If you have checked the temps and made sure that they are correct, I wouldn't worry about it. The snake might just be comfortable at room temperature.

Re: Corn snake wont go to the warmth
My corn uses both cool and warm side hides.
