New pet

So i posted earlier that I would try feeding my IJ live. Well she was with it for an hour and i think she made a friend._. All it did was drink her water and sleep. She tried striking once but that was it. So. I have a pet rat.

I'm upset though. I thought she was dead. She was really cold and not moving when i went to pick her up to get her awake before I fed her. It's really starting to worry me:/ I live my girl a lot.

Re: New pet

Could be that time of year. A lot snakes go off feed.

Didn't you say your IJ is really old? Could just be the aging process as well.

She's not too old, 4 years going on 5. I wouldn't be worried at all but she doesn't weigh nearly as much as she should. And her spine is obviously showing. Its just a waiting game for now

Re: New pet

Ah right. So she hasn't eaten once in your care? Do you see her roam at night?

^ Maybe your snake is too cold, so that's why it's not eating?

Re: New pet

I'm not sure why she was so cold but she is in her water for almost two days. My dad is picking up some mice forbher, just together something in her system. Shevhas eaten but not much in my care. Since July when i got her she's eaten I'm guessing 6 times maybe? I offer food every other week. My room is warmer than the rest of my house, 80F just for her. When my dad gets paid next were buying a heat mat as well. Thanks you guys.

Anyway, the rat is friendly and adorable and i named him Syke

imo she has ate more than enough, as to not worry about her.....

i would stop handling her until she's feeding regular...

DON'T feed her mice,as they can be stubborn on changing from mice to rats, and it takes an awefull lot of mice to feed an adult carpet

what are your hot end temps ?

cheers shaun

I was thinking about it and its been less than that. But hot is around 89-91, cool 78-80.

Re: New pet

I suggested a mouse just for the fact that in my opinion, its better for her to eat SOMETHING rather than waste away and die...it has been suggested to me before to try something smaller and it worked, so I re-suggested it...

Re: New pet

your temps are good

it may be a breeding season thing

could you please take some pictures, next to say a sky tv remote,to give us a size reference, then we can give an opinion on her wieght

imo 6 feeds over 5 months is sufficiant enough eating, for her to maintain a lean muscular build

my Diamonds only get fed 6 month of the year, the rest of my Carpets only get 2 to 4 feeds per winter, with no issues

cheers shaun
