So, I did a photoshoot on Sunday with a group of 7 snakes friends and I own and we're starting to get some pictures back. I'm sure these won't be the only pictures so as they come in I'll update with the new ones.

Hisdavila kept feeling the need to grab my crotch. I guess it's a change of pace, the rest of my animals always try to go down my shirt. :|

Monty, my poster child for rescues. The opening of the mouth is for breathing as a case of mouth rot before we brought him home destroyed some of his face, including his nares.

Nix, getting curious and tickling my nose with her tongue flicks.

So this one is sort of an inside joke from another forum however towards the beginning of the year my long distance boyfriend decided he was going to come down and during the designated time for him to be down there was a pretty formal masquerade ball going on we wanted to go to and I had asked the forum for some dress advice and somebody had replied with a joking comment along the lines of, 'Just get a simple black dress and then wear a boa.' Now, this isn't the dress I bought (with a black backdrop, it wouldn't have shown very well as these were continuous lights and not flashes/strobes that may upset the snakes) but you get the idea.

The following images will be posted again in a separate thread in the GTP area because I have some questions but I thought I ought to post them here too for people who don't venture in there.

This picture was taken at another photoshoot with the same photographer at the beginning of the year. So little green.

These are all of the pictures from the shoot that I've got right now. Several hundreds pictures were taken and it takes time to go in and pick out the good ones, crop them, shop stray hairs, unblur the snake, etc. So we should be seeing more soon.

Isn't she? She's an inch or two over 10 feet. She's a pretty hulking snake. Because there were so many snakes and 3 of them were larger snakes (now granted, the 2 boas I can handle fine on my own. No problem at all) while the boas are chill and slow, Hisdavila is super curious and very inquisitive about her surroundings so you can even see a bit of blur on her head she was just not interested in sitting still for us and my sister had to come over a few times and help me get situated with her comfortably before more shots. @_@

at first when I saw the picture of the boa with it's mouth open I thought he was going to bite you. Haha wouldn't have been pretty! So does he always breathe like that? Or only when he's being held?

I know, especially with me looking down at him and not at the camera it makes me seem like I'm worried so I decided to clarify. He breaths like this most of them time. He usually has his mouth open a little bit and them every once in a while takes a deep breath and opens his mouth. It's really sad to watch when you know why he's doing it.

You can see it's bad enough he doesn't have nares any more.

Also, if he had decided to bite, it probably wouldn't have been horrible as the mouth rot also took away all but maybe... 2 of his teeth. Slowly they're growing back now that he's with us but.. they're small and very few of them still.

So what is left of his nares? Is it just scar tissue that is blocking the nostrils? If so can surgery be done to remove the blocking tissue?

That's pretty sad to see. Wonder what risks there are constantly breathing like that(catching more infections..etc)

edit: might have missed the story behind him. How did he get like that?

Nothing really, it's just scar tissue. Now, over time it looks at though they may be coming back but he doesn't breath through them at all. From what it looks like, yeah it's a ton of scar tissue and sadly no, the vet we saw said he wasn't sure there was anything the could be done.

His story. Well. My sister and I had been looking to get more tanks as extras are never a bad thing and we found an offer and went to go pick up the tanks. When we got there the guy said they weren't water sealed so we couldn't use them for fish, so he asked what we had and when we replied a boa, he insisted on showing us his boas. He had 3 on his porch in too-small enclosures with no water, no heat and he claimed he hadn't fed them since their last clutch. He brought out a small snake the size of a month old neonate and despite our disbelief on the matter we learned that the baby was a year old (time stamped pictures). The female (the boa with me in the green dress) was emaciated and had an RI and some rub/scratch scabs. The male was emaciated, had an RI, remnants of mouth rot and bad open cuts, torn scales, rubs, etc. The young snake was emaciated and obviously stunted. We took the baby home that day and we were back later in the week for the other two (needed time to set up enclosures). We still aren't even sure if she's ever going to grow much. She's grown a few inches at best since we brought her home but otherwise she's the same size despite being a pig. All are now in better health and are all very sweet and hopefully well on their way to recovery.
