What Snake is This?
Hello,
I googled 'snake forum' and found you guys - it looks like a very popular site so I thought I'd ask here!
I found this snake the other day - what in the world is it?

Looks like a corn snake. Very beneficial and not dangerous to people. Was it killed,looks like the head was crushed?

Thank you for the tips.. how can I tell if it's a cornsnake or rat snake?
I don't know what happened to him I think someone ran over his head... I found him this morning

A corn snake is a type of rat snake (aka red rat snake). But this is not a red rat snake. I agree with grey rat snake. Where are you located?

I would suggest getting a field guide for the local snakes in your area, ideally one with a dichotomous key. Color, pattern and shapes are very subjective, and there can be much variation within a single species, making identification using those features alone tricky and not reliable.
