Re: First for us
talk about cool!!! youve got a very determined cat heh heh.
consider calling your version of CDC/wildlife control, as if a cat could have caught it, it may have been ill (rabies isnt a real concern for you guys over there, but for your own/your cats health i'd look into it)

Re: First for us
I contacted the Bat protection League and they will collect the dead bat to have it checked/use it for teaching/research.
Apparently out of 10000 bats that have been checked only 10 had a "rabies like virus". This isnt the common rabies like Kujo had but a bat virus that can affect other mammals on rare occassions.
If this one tests positive they will let us know and treat us and our animals just in case.

A lot cuter than the one i caught. The first one i caught i injured its wing accidentally and before i could even get it outside it started chewing it off. Man they got some vicious looking teeth. So i had to put it out of it misery.

Re: First for us
Long Eared Bat is adorable! I've never seen them before. I love bats and think they have the cutest little faces, reminds me of a chihuaha. I've been lucky being able to work with brown bats and fruit bats. Love them. Be careful with the brown bats they can carry rabies. If you are getting that many in the house you may want to consider getting the vaccine.

The rate of bat infection with rabies in the UK is 10 in 10000. And then it is not rabies as we envisage but a viral infection that can infect other mammals but is more virulent in bats.
In the extreme chance this bat is infected tehn my family and animals will be treated as infected just in case.

Re: First for us
Awesome! The only bats I ever see are dive bombing my hair during night walks.
