Breeder keeps his Boa at 82F on the Warm Side
Specifically his Caulker Cayes. Is this too low? Isn't 82 supposed to the ambient air temperature. On RioBravo it says they should be given a 90f hotspot.

That could be the ambient on the warm side.

Re: Breeder keeps his Boa at 82F on the Warm Side
I know a guy who keeps everything from ratsnakes to gaboon vipers to amazon tree boas. He has over 100 snakes. He heats his snake room to like 82 degrees and has a humidifier, giving no other heat source. His snakes thrive. Just saying it's not what I do but snakes are resilient and depending on the species a lot of them could probably be ok in "less than ideal" or "nonconventional" husbandry.

Living and thriving are two different things.... Yes they may possibly stay live like that.

By thrive I mean eat, poop, shed. Like I said, it's not how I choose to keep mine.

I know you're just telling us how he keeps his snakes brylecc but if I were talking to him I'd ask him how they are thriving if the conditions are the same everywhere. There's no way of thermoregulating.

Re: Breeder keeps his Boa at 82F on the Warm Side
My snake room fluctuates from about 70º in the dead of winter to 85º on really hot days. My hot sides stay the same but my cool sides fluctuate from about 73-78º depending on air temps. A breeder using daytime heat lamps might have luck keeping as mentioned. As long as the air was always 82 the rest should be very predictable. Not my style but just like screen top vivs , some people will make it work.

Re: Breeder keeps his Boa at 82F on the Warm Side
I think his answer would be that the "required" husbandry for a lot of snakes is well presented misinformation. For example, if you go to petco and buy a book about keeping ball pythons, it will tell you it needs a UV bulb. Maybe because they know you're going to buy that UV bulb at petco also. I think his theory is a lot of care sheets are inaccurate, or at least not the only option to keeping a healthy snake.

If this is the same 'breeder' you got your caulker cay from I wouldn't trust him with a goldfish

ahaha I don't even talk to him anymore. This is a new breeder I found on kingsnake. From his pictures his clutch seems to be much more healthier and "full" unlike the one I bought from a few weeks ago.
