There is actually a way to tell, I talked with David Barker a few years ago about this very thing, I believe he said the eyes on the childrens are closer and a little higher on the head then the spotteds, and there is something about the freckling thats different too, if you have some pics of the snake most likely someone on here would be able to help out

*edit*
maybe I should add that many of these animals have been cross bred for decades, when they were first brought over they were all believed to be the same animal, years later it's too late, the damage is done! so there is a great portion of the spotted-childrens population in north amarica that are crossed...hope this helps

Lizlady, better and larger pics would be more helpful... it's pretty much impossible to identify stuff from small and/or blurry pictures...

Apparently the two can be identified by the scalation on the head. It was quite simple to see. Somewhere there was a website illustrating this, but I haven't been able to find it for some time. I also read that the eyes on the Children's tend to stick out from the head more than the Spotteds.

Also, I thought that Spotted's tend to retain their blotched look through adulthood, whereas on Children's it tends to just fade resulting in a mostly one tone brownish adult.

Of course - like mentioned before - many of them being sold are not 'pure' strains either way.
