Do you know what kind of snake you want? If so it will help us directed you in the right direction. I have bought all but two of mine online.

Re: buying a snake from online breeders good or bad
I look online to see what I would like and for current pricing, but prefer to go to local breeders with cash-in-hand to purchase so that I can look over the critter before making a final decision.

Re: buying a snake from online breeders good or bad
Most important is understanding how to properly house, feed and care for (temps, %RH, the best feed, etc) for the critter you seek.
Download a few care sheets for the snake in question and start asking questions before you even get an enclosure.
(I have seen people with three foot viv's for little pytons becasue thats what a pet store had to try and sell them. (when one foot to 18 inches works fine)
Then POST to the right forum about what you plan to buy for housing, heating, humidity, how and what you plan to feed, how you control RH, etc. and you will get straightened out as need be before you buy the "wrong-anything".
Next you want to have it all set up before you buy you guy (or gal) then you can pull the trigger.
You have stubbled upon a website which contains member who care about helping eachother and have a broad and deep wealth of knowledge.
Finding a good source for the snake will be the easy part.
Hope that helps,
C.

Re: buying a snake from online breeders good or bad
I've purchased most of my animals online, but unless I knew the breeder was credible I wouldn't even think of it.

Re: buying a snake from online breeders good or bad
I've purchased reptiles online, CL ads, at reptile shows, and straight from local breeders. I have had good experiences all around, as well as raw deals. The key is doing some preliminary research and be aware of the source. Also, some species have a really tight niche market, so finding them locally can be challenge.
Don't always go for the cheapest price. Remember you get what you pay for. But sometimes, the highest price tag doesn't guarantee quality (Ex: pet stores usually have the highest markups, because they are retail.

Try searching for your state name on FaunaClassifieds to find local breeders. I found six within an hour's drive of me that way. I'm getting another BP (2012 0.1 lesser) this evening from one, cash for local pickup.
