Question Thinking of getting a Corn...

I've spent months wobbling back and forth between MBK, Mountain King and Okeetee Corn and I think I like the idea of a Corn better. I will know better when I handle one.

I will probably be getting it in the spring, around March (I don't want to rush it).

I want to buy it as a baby. I want an Okeetee that looks like this when it grows up:

Not this:

I've seen both referred to / labeled as an Okeetee.
How do I determine the difference in a baby? Is the top example what's referred to as an Abbott's Okeetee?

My second question: I think I want a female, because they get the biggest. I've heard that a 38qt tub will be big enough. is this true?

Should I feed rats, mice, or both? Do they get stuck on one food like a BP and not want the other or do they not care?

There was the tiniest baby okeetee at a pet store a couple weeks ago, I put my finger up to the glass and he lifted his head, put it up to the glass and stared cross-eyed at my finger. It was stinking adorable

Well, here are my pros and cons

Corns
Pros: Corns get bigger, Okeetees are bright red orange and black, the colour of tigers! They eat well, are usually friendly, curious, cool shaped head with a distinct neck, easy care

Cons: ?

MBK's / Mountain Kings
Pros: all black MBK somehow makes them look venomous to me, red/white/black mountain king looks awesome and venomous too, 'angry' looking face reminds me of a cobra, they have spirit, eat everything in sight, may be a fun challenge

Cons: smaller than corns, can be bitey when young, move too fast, little head with no neck, may be a not so fun challenge

Re: Thinking of getting a Corn...

My corns will eat whatever i have available at the time, i tend to feed mice up to adulthood and then rats to maintain adult weight.

Thanks Rob.

Anyone else have answers to my other questions?

Taking a look at the parents would help give you an idea of what the babies would look like as they get older. If you can. I don't think there is a way to tell from the babies. I always go with the bright colored ones. Okeetee corns change drastically with age.

Re: Thinking of getting a Corn...

Corns are great, but one thing that I'm not fan of is that they always seem to be on the move. Very active snakes and quite intelligent so they are quite the escape artists. Great feeders and cool personalities though so if you want one, then definitely get one

As for the Okeetee I'd imagine that a baby with a large amount of solid black riming should stay the same (maybe a little bit of fading).

There is a reptile dealer I know of that orders them in, so probably won't be able to see the parents.

I find a local breeder, then I will definitely look at the parents.
