Question Savannah - sore behind back leg?

Hi all,

I just noticed this today, it looks as though Rex had a swore just behind his leg? I would said its almost close to the anus area? Ill attatch a picture but it doesn't show some of the redness around the area

Hi, is the spot under the tail next to the vent, and are there two of them? Can you take a couple more photos of the underneath of the tailbase and crop them so they`re zoomed in?

What do you mean by "vent" mate? I've took another but it's really hard because of the position that he's in. Is that picture any better?

The "vent" is the opening at the tailbase where the sex organs are and the animal defaecates from! It would be better if you can get a photo from under the tail.

Sorry, I can`t see anything unusual at all in those pics, I`m not even sure which bit you`re talking about, can you crop the photo so it just shows the so called "sore"?

I'm using my iphone and when I look at that pic I've got uploaded there are red areas, almost like two red dots?

I don't think it is, well to be honest because he's not tame yet I can't handle him much. But even my partner noticed from a distantly that it looked a little swore. On a close snapshot and cropped (as shown above) it does show two little red spots whether this is relevant to the swore around the vent I don't know. :/

Re: Savannah - swore behind back leg?

O.k, it`s a little confusing, and the only way we will know whether it`s a sore or a pore/gland is if you gently hold the monitor upside down in your hand and take a quick photo of the vent area to hopefully get a clearer view. I`m not in the habit of advising keepers to force handle their animals if they aren`t fully acclimated, but if there`s a possible health problem it`s worth the small ammount of stress caused in my opinion.
I can tell you the monitor will not "hold a grudge" for the next 10 years, die from the stress, or break into a thousand pieces!
Will you try that?
