weird feeder

Ok so we have had our tiger retic on frozen since we got her almost 2 months ago. and we know she was given live. but ever since she realized we were giving her pre killed pray she stopped striking it as hard. and it peaked today. she just sat there with her mouth open untill i put the rat in her mouth. I mean it just strikes us as odd. and we were wondering if any one has ever experienced that.

Re: weird feeder

I ha e had boas do that open mouth thing then rip the rat out of my hand the next feed. That's what persuaded me to just drop feed.

Re: weird feeder

My retic takes 2 medium f/t rats every feeding. He hits the first one like a mack truck and constricts it for about 10 minutes before swallowing it. The second one he strikes real easy and swallows almost right away. The next feeding he does the same thing. He's got a really bad memory! LOL

Re: weird feeder

My lav tiger retic kinda does that. She's kinda stupid. She'll strike and constrict the rat, but then completely forgets about it and slithers away so I grab the rat then she'll suddenly remember that it was hers then when I put it in front of her again, she'll just open her mouth and slowly grab on to it then start eating it.

Re: weird feeder

Its certainly not an issue but with it being a retic i wouldnt become complacent at feed time, just in case it decides to go back to full on striking again

Re: weird feeder

thank you guys. i just found it odd and wanted to share it. and I used to raise balls so to have an animal that unless it is in she is gonna eat. this is a dream for me. and compared to balls this animal is sooo much better on so many levels.

Re: weird feeder

Some strike some don't I have 4 boa's 2 strike (Hard) 2 don't, drop feed is my only option with the 2 that don't strike but at the end of the day they eat.

Nice that you care enough to ask.
