my kids have been the care giveres (meaning i do all the work and they watch lol) of our beardie for about a year now, i had a few beardie when i was growing up and when my kids got old enough i decided to share the joy of these awesome lizards with them. ironically i found this forum when looking up info about the sand boas my daughter talked me into at repticon over the weekend lol

That looks like calci sand to me. I recommend you get him off that ASAP. Good substrates are paper towels, shelf liner, tile, and stuff like that. You can also you a mix of dirt and play sand with bioactive substrate. If you want more info on setting that up do a forum search and a lot should pop up. I personally do not like straight play sand because in my experience it made the viv smell horrible but I know people who use it and love it.

You cant use bio active substrate for beardies they need a dry enviroment. Bio active only works if wet. Humidity causes Upper respritory in beardies

That is not true. If you set it up correctly bio active will not give off humidity. If you set it up like a rain forest viv then ya it would but if set up correctly it wouldnt. Furthermore if you keep them warmer it will prevent them from getting an upper respiratory infection.
